So I got this call on Tuesday Oct. 6th. from the producers of "The Ellen Show" They've seen some videos of me doing yoga, and they're looking for someone to do scorpion handstand on "The Ellen Show". Great! I'd love to. One catch, can I put glasses on in scorpion? I was having trouble figuring out how to pick up the glasses, and get into the handstand, and a little nervous I might put my eye out trying to get them on with my feet. "How about a hat?" I suggest.
Cut to Thursday, having had a day to practice, I'm at Warner Brothers for the taping. Rehearsal goes okay. I continue to practice this new trick throughout the day. Some mishaps, but I'm getting it good in the Green Room with my beloved mat.
Now I'm in the audience. I'm part of a segment called audience talent. Ellen calls me down. I'm in civilian clothes, no mat and Ellen is hugging me. I place the hat on the floor, the ascent is happening.....drumroll...... I'm in handstand holding the hat in my feet. I start bending into scorpion. I see the hat floating above me. I'm adjusting, where is it? . I drop the hat on my head. Ellen moves in to pat it down, I'm smiling, slightly..........distracted. I drop to a backbend, grab the hat and stand up laughing. The whole audience talent segment is posted here. I'm about two minutes in, after the guy singing a duet by himself!. Enjoy!
Ellen was a delight. Below is a full video of various hat tricks.
