On June 21st. With help from Maya Saijo and Yoshiko Sugimoto, I am planning a fundraiser in Sendai, a town wiped out be the tsunami. On October 15th and 16th I will be teaching at Sun and Moon Yoga in Tokyo: October 19th Yoga Breeze in Fukuoka October 22 & 23rd I'm doing a teacher training in Nagoya (link coming soon) And on October 28th, I'll be teaching in Hong Kong at Yoga Mala 5/20/11 I turned 53 this month (May) and uploaded another video for my birthday. Enjoy! 03/18/11 From Japan The earthquake happened while I was flying into Tokyo. They landed us at an alternate airport and because the roads were closed and trains were stopped we all, maybe 1000 people or more, spent the night there. The first people to arrive got blankets. Someone gave me a flattened cardboard box to sleep on. Fortunately I had my yoga mat to put on top of that. The scene at Haneda. The ground was swaying and rolling all night, and we experienced some pretty strong aftershocks. The Japanese people were completely unfazed. I made my way to Nagoya, where believe it or not, I taught a workshop. It felt surreal to be teaching, but I think everyone there had been glued to the TV, and were happy for the distraction. We started with a minute of silence and a chance to dedicate the practice to the people affected by the earthquake. Part of the money will be donated to earthquake relief. My friend Michiko, who organized the workshop, is from one of the towns that was washed out by the tsunami. She just learned some friends and relatives made it to a relief center. It's all so surreal. I'm in Kyoto now, frustrated there isn't more I can do here to help. I was supposed to teach in Tokyo all weekend, but the studio is shut down and, according to the owner, will be until summer. I have a seat on a flight back to LAX tomorrow.
